Artist Statement

As an artist, I have always been drawn to the power of the human spirit, and few expressions of this power are as profound as the love of a mother for her children. This painting is a tribute to the countless mothers who have sacrificed their time, energy, and love to raise their children with patience, dedication, and unwavering devotion.

The central figure of this painting is a symbol of the strength and resilience of mothers throughout history. She is depicted with a halo, a symbol of her saintly and selfless nature. The halo is a recognition of her sacrifice, of her endless capacity for love and nurturing, and of her dedication to her children.

The mother in this painting is not a passive figure. She is depicted as strong and determined, with a gaze that is both loving and fiercely protective. She is a warrior, a protector, and a nurturer all at once, a testament to the multifaceted nature of motherhood.

Through this painting, I hope to recognize and honor the sacrifices that mothers make every day. It is my belief that the world would be a better place if we all recognized and celebrated the vital role that mothers play in shaping our society, and I hope that this painting contributes to that recognition.

This painting was inspired by song lyrics by my friend, the amazingly talented Kira Gatiuan.

The song:
“To Live In The Sun”

V1
Light is filling up my vision now
And I’m seeing everything in gold
Feels like nothing before this was real
This new sight I see is something old

Chorus:
Could I walk those floors like sea of glass
And in his glory stand
Knowing who he is
And be happy with who I am
To live in the sun?

V2:
Scared a sinner begs for cleanliness
To be lent at gate of perfect white
Fast instinct my hand goes to take his
To let him guide me through paradise

Chorus:
Could I walk those floors like sea of glass
And in his glory stand
Knowing who he is
And be happy with who I am
To live in the sun?

Artist’s Statement:

I am drawn to religious symbolism and the transformative power of faith. In this painting, entitled "The Return", I have sought to capture the moment of spiritual transformation that comes through repentance and redemption.

The central figure in this painting kneels humbly before the Savior. Her posture is one of humility and contrition, and her expression is one of surrender to a higher power. The Savior, meanwhile, is depicted placing a halo (crown of glory) upon her head. This is a symbol of the power of grace to transform even the most broken among us. The use of gold accents throughout the painting serves to emphasize the glory of this transformative moment.

It is my hope that this painting serves as a reminder of the power of grace to transform our lives and lead us on a path of greater spiritual fulfillment.

New Art: Aphrodite

Artist Statement

In this painting of Aphrodite, I wanted to explore the many facets of womanhood and femininity, and the ways in which these qualities are intertwined and interdependent.

Aphrodite is often associated with beauty, love, and passion, and I hoped to capture these qualities in this painting. She is depicted with a warmth and sensuality that is both alluring and inviting. Her gown is made of roses, a symbol of both beauty and fragility, and a testament to the transformative power of love.

But Aphrodite is more than just a symbol of physical beauty and passion. She is also a mother, a giver of life, and a nurturer. This is represented in the painting by the vine that sprouts from her gown, a symbol of life-giving nourishment and sustenance. She embodies the multifaceted nature of womanhood, with all its complexities and contradictions.

Women are more than just objects of beauty and desire; they are creators, nurturers, and life-givers. They are powerful and resilient, and their strength lies in their ability to embrace all aspects of their nature.
